The Minister of Administrative Reform, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, expressed the view that new scenarios on changes in wages in the public sector as part of the evaluation process are examined.
Mr Mitsotakis talked to private TV channel SKAI and stressed that whatever is reported is only estimates rather than specific recommendations.
He said however that the wage gap between the new employee and the general manager is very small.
“We need to find funds if we want to change it because the budget is specific,” said Mr. Mitsotakis, adding that he would like to be able to establish a performance bonus for the employees that have achieved their goals.
However, Mr Mitsotakis said that there is no question of reducing the salary or temporarily laying off the employees who will be at the 15% of the employees with the worst performance.
As for the redundancies in the public sector, he stated that Greece’s obligations are specific and added that the evaluation and temporary lay-offs of legal persons governed by private law will be set as a priority, since this is what all ministries have committed to.
He also stated that 240,000 employees of public sector were retired during the last five years.
