Following marathon discussions, the majority of articles and clauses of the omnibus bill of prior actions as part of Greece’s bailout deal with international creditors passed through. The bill will be presented to Greek Parliament’s plenary at 1 p.m. and will be voted late on Friday.
Minor opposition parties of Greek Parliament expressed their opposition to a number of measures included in the bill, with the exception of the right-wing junior coalition party of Independent Greeks. Opposition was expressed during a discussion at a joint parliamentary committee meeting.
Giannis Koutsoukos of the Democratic Coalition said that the provisions of the bill are “tangible proof that refutes the pre-electoral rhetoric of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) and ANEL coalition leadership following the so-called tough negotiation that ended in unconditional surrender.”
Rapporteur of the Greek Communist Party, Nikos Karathanasopoulos, described the bill as “barbaric” stating that it had “cler class characteristics”.
Haris Theoharis of Potami said the government included bill provisions that are not part of Greece’s bailout negotiations that will be passed through “without debate”. He said that his party would vote against the bill.
union of Centrists’ rapporteur Marios Georgiadis said he hoped “logic and realism” would prevail.
On his part, Dimitris Kammenos of ANEL, said that his party is in favor of the bill but asked to allow the settlement of business debts against debts of the State and assignment of debt from rents to the State.
