The Golden Dawn party has brought to light a document from the Foreign Ministry on the name dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The document refers to the Foreign Council Meeting on July 22, 2015, and asks Golden Dawn President Nikos Mihaloliakos to express his viewsregarding which names or compound names for the neighboring country he would find acceptable.
The letter caused anger in Greek Parliament, with main opposition New Democracy Leader Evangelos Meimarakis refering to the letter as “unbelievable, not constructive and dangerous.” He asked what the point of the letter was. “What did the Foreign Ministry end us? To negotiate between ourselves as parties?” he asked. He turned to Kotzias and asked, “Is that how you negotiate? Do you negotiate with ANEL regarding what you’ll pass through and finally lead us to a difficult and painful agreement.”
On his part, Kotzias said the letter was confidential and was critical of its leak.
