A man, aged 61, fell to his death from the theater of Dionysos at the Acropolis in an act of suicide. Dozens of tourists watched in terror as the man leaped to his death, dying before their very eyes.

The man is from the region of Anavyssos on the south coast of Attica. He left a note to his wife explaining the reasons that led to his decision to commit suicide. When she found the note he had already left his home and it was too late for her to reach him.

The man was to appear in court on Wednesday and was afraid that he would be handed a prison sentence.
