Cyprus is outraged over Tsipras’s statements

The government of Cyprus forwarded its intense disturbance on the statements made by Alexis Tsipras to Greek government

Newsroom November 19 01:53

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras handled with amateurism his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu, especially regarding the Cyprus issue causing reactions in Cyprus.

Political circles in Cyprus said that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras went to Turkey “unprepared and did not avoid mistakes, which substantially void the common strategy that Cyprus and Greece share on the issue of Turkey’s accession negotiations with the EU,”.

The Greek Prime Minister replying to a question posed by a Turkish journalist regarding the chapters in Turkey-EU negotiations said: “We are positive in starting the procedures for chapters 23 and 24”, but “we do not want these to be closed easily or in a hurry, but we should discuss the terms and conditions and these should be fulfilled”.

Political circles in Cyprus were outraged over Tsipras’s statements which exposed the government of Cyprus.

Cyprus, though, has made clear it is not willing to authorize the opening of chapters if Turkey does not fulfill its obligations towards Cyprus starting with the recognition of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to information of protothema.gr, the government of Cyprus forwarded its intense disturbance on the statements made by Alexis Tsipras to Greek government, who probably did not understand what he said and what kind of concession he made to Turkey.

Cyprus did not make any official statements to avoid a crisis between Greece and Cyprus.
