RIP Minas Hatzisavvas, a great Greek actor remembered (pics + vids)

The great Greek actor died on Monday, aged 67, and will be given a public burial on Wednesday

Newsroom December 1 08:13

Greek actor Minas Hatzisavvas, aged 67, died on Monday night at Evangelismos hospital where he had been treated since last Monday. He died at 8.29 p.m. surrounded by friends, relatives and colleagues.

The actor was rushed to hospital in a coma after a blood haemorrhage last Monday. His health was in a critical condition after heart problems that he suffered from in the past.

The actor was missing from a press conference that he was supposed to attend at the Hilton Hotel on Monday morning for the presentation of the film, “Another World”. At the time, director Christoforos Papakaliatis told the press that the actor could not attend because he was rehearsing for a play. Fans will be able to see him in the movie during its posthumous premiere. In it he plays an extremist who hates refugees. Like his other roles, it promises to be one fans will remember.

Here’s the trailer:

Hatzisavvas was born in 1948 and has performed in many movies, TV series and theater plays with great success. He was won numerous awards for his acting.

Regarding his start in acting, he stated: “Times were different then. Times were tough and people were arsh. Whoever couldn’t interpret their role well, changed professions. They gave you your belongings and said, ‘Get another job!’ It was a school that taught you that there were thousands of roles and each one had to be performed differently!”

As an actor his name is forever intertwined with George Michailidis’ Open Theater troupe that he was a part of from 1984 through to 1998. Known for his trend to experiment, Hatzisavvas was always one to take a risk and push acting to the limits oftentimes going against the opinion of critics.

A brilliant actor on the local scene, he died with one unfulfilled ambition – to direct.

He will be buried during a civil ceremony at noon on Wednesday at the First Cemetery of Athens.
