Until now, foreign-language speakers were able to enjoy the acoustics and scenery surrounding the Epidaurus Ancient Theater but they weren’t able to truly grasp the meaning of the performances, usually performed in Greek. All this has changed with English subtitles accompanying performances at the venue for the first time this year. This opens the door to greater enjoyment and understanding when performances kick off on July 5.
The performances are:
* July 5: Euripides’ “Helen” by Dimitris Karantzas
* July 12: Aeschylus’ “Prometheus Bound” by Ektoras Lygizos
* July 18-19: Sophocles’ “Philoctetes” by the Municipal Regional Theater of Patras & Artivities (pictured)
* July 25-26: Euripides’ “Hippolytus” featuring actress/director Lydia Koniordou and the National Theater of Greece
* August 1-2: Aristophanes’ “The Frogs” featuring Yiannis Kakleas and the National Theater of Greece
In further efforts to make the performances more accessible to as many people as possible special scheduled KTEL buses belonging to the long-distance bus network of Greec have been created to make return trips to and from the theater, that is approximately two hours away from Athens.
