U.S. President Barack Obama expressed on Monday his regret over the refusal of Congress to vote this year’s reform of the immigration system and accused the Republicans of preventing one of the most important draft laws, while he pledged to proceed the reform on his own.
Earlier on, Obama had been informed by the Chairman of the House of Representatives, John Bener, that the Republicans will not allow the voting for this bill this year.
Immediately after, speaking to reporters from the Rose Garden of the White House, Barack Obama said that he had asked his councilors to submit their proposals on the issue by the end of the summer and stressed that he would promote them with no delay.
The US President added that he had given instructions to strengthen border security. As for the tens of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America arriving in the southern U.S. border, the U.S. president stated that most of them will return home upon completion of legal proceedings.
