Taxpayers are rushing to meet their obligations on the last few days of 2015 so as not to start the new year with debts and tax fines. Huge lines are noted at tax offices around the country in a frantic rush to tie up loose ends. Parent transfers to their children in particular need to be tied up by the end of December as that is the deadline for tax-free gifts for sums of up to 5,000 euros that parents and grandparents give to their children and grandchildren. Thousands are also rushing to meet the deadline for car registration fees and joint ENFIA tax payments.
In the last five working days of 2015, taxpayers need to pay:

– the third of five installments for the joint property tax (ENFIA) whose deadline ends on December 31. State coffers hope to yield 490 million euros from theis payment.

– car registrations for 2016. Over 4.2 mln car owners need to pay a total of 1.15 bln euros worth of car registration fees as the Ministry of Finance said that there will be no extension granted and fines will double as of January 1, 2016.

– debt regulation. Debtors who can’t pay installments in December are rushing to enter a debt resettlement plan.
