Thursday night’s episodes at Monastiraki between anti-state rebels and a group of ultra-nationalist Germans at Monastiraki resulted in a ban of all rallies and public gatherings on Saturday.
The police announced that the decision was the result of concern regarding public security. It noted that the ban concerns gatherings at the Athens center, specifically the triangle from Hilton – Rigillis Street – Syntagma Square.
The decision was made following an announcement by Greece’s fascist Golden Dawn party concerning an event to honor the Turkish invasion of the rocky islet of Imia at the same time that anti-state gruops were planning their own event at Propylaia, Athens.
The ban goes into effect at 6 a.m. and runs through to midnight.
