Because of the strike action, the GENOP PPC announced that , Starting from 12 midnight on Wednesday controlled blackouts will take place . The Operator of the Greek Electricity Distribution Network, in its statement does not indicate for how long those blackouts will last , but that they will take place in such a way as to ensure the smooth operation of the electric system. At the same time the government argument with the union escalates as GENOP PPC shows that will not give in to demands, while the government is ready to resort to termination of conscription.
According to the announcement of the HEDNO the blackouts will happen due “to the possible reduction of available generating capacity of the country. These cuts will be made if necessary to maintain the balance of production / demand and the total amount (MW) and the duration will be determined, for the Continent area, from the Transmission System Operator (ITSO), in such a way as to ensure the smooth operation of the electric system. ”
Regarding the non-interconnected islands, the HEDNO will also go to planned blackouts if there is a reduction of available generating capacity, in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the autonomous electrical systems.
At the same time necessary and useful guide to consumers are given. Specifically:
– Draws attention to consumers to avoid using elevators throughout the duration of the strike, in order to avoid to be trapped.
– At the same time, for security reasons, people should be aware of all the electricity that can be reset at any time and regardless of the indicative program cuts and hence electrical installations should be considered permanently “under stress.”
– Consumers also should not consider as ‘inactive’ the electrical devices due to a power outage, if they are connected to their electrical installation, as the power can come back sooner than the indicative timetable. Additionally, for safety reasons, it would be preferable these to be disconnected.
– Especially for the people who need mechanical support, the HEDNO recommend to visit directly the nearest hospital, otherwise to contact the center of fault in their area, on the phone number listed on the electricity bill.
– Meanwhile, HEDNO appeals to all consumers, to minimize possible using intensive electric appliances, mainly during times of peak demand, ie from 11:00 to 16:00 and from 20:00 to 22:00 .
Finally, expresses its regret for the inconvenience that causes to the consumers and thanking them in advance for their active participation in efforts to reduce power consumption.
