Two years after his withdrawal from the presidency of France, Sarkozy said that now is the right time to give some explanations to French people, since the situation is now very serious, and that some people want to humiliate him.
Sarkozy gave an interview yesterday at radio station Europe 1 and TV channel TF1 and he denied that he committed an unlawful act while he stated that “a part of the justice system is being used for political purposes,”.
“The case against me aims to damage my image,” said the former French president.
“In our country, which is the country of human rights and law, certain things are planned. French people should know about these things and must judge them freely and based on their conscience,” he added.
“The situation is serious enough to tell French citizens where we are today in terms of political exploitation of a part of the justice system,” the former president said and added that “I address to all of those who listen or watch that I have never betrayed them and that I did not commit any unlawful act”.
Also he did not rule out the possibility to return to the political scene of France, but he said that he is currently in the process of reflection and that he wanted to decide in late August, early September.
He also claimed that he has nothing to hide from justice, that he is not asking for a special treatment, and that what made him a huge impression was that even though he answered all questions of the police authorities of Nanterre, judges decided that an investigation against him should start.
