Greece to attend Eurogroup meeting without having institutions’ proposals

Greek Finance Minister is expected to say to his European counterparts that the tactic of delaying puts the Greek program in risk

Newsroom February 11 09:26

Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos is attending today’s meeting among the finance ministers of the euro zone without having received, as sources close to institutions say, not a single written proposal of the lenders concerning the open issues.

According to reports, he will try to explain to his European counterparts that the tactic of delaying exercised by the ‘Quartet’ must come to an end; otherwise, the success of Greek program is doubtful, as Greek government claims.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has already discussed that issue with German Chancellor Angela Merkel during their meeting in London last Thursday. He criticized the institutions saying that the Greek side has submitted its proposal for the social security reform, but the institutions have not given their own.

Sources of institutions have admitted that this is the first time that they have not submitted any written comments or suggestions, while they did not rule out the possibility of extending the negotiation talks until Easter blaming also the Greek side for delaying to submit all the required performance data for the measures proposed.

However, government sources claim that “we have given and we continue giving them almost whatever institutions have requested, but they refuse to provide any answer”.
