Illegal immigration flows into Greece have increased in the last few days through the eastern borders of the country.
In the early hours of Thursday, 32 illegal immigrants – 18 men, 6 women and 8 minors – were spotted at the eastern coast of small Farmakonissi island, at the Dodecanese. All were taken by the authorities to Leros island, where they were arrested.
In a separate case, the Hellenic Coast Guard and the police arrested 26 illegal immigrants – 20 men and 6 women – at the southern part of Chios island, northeastern Aegean Sea; they were scheduled to be taken to island’s General Hospital for precautionary health tests.
Another four illegal immigrants – 3 men and a woman – on board a polyester boat were arrested at Marathounta gulf, Simi island, while 16 illegal immigrants were spotted at the Faneromeni area of Lesvos island and were detained at the island’s port of Mytilini.
