Former Greek Finance Minister and leader of a leftwing political movement called DiEM25 expressed the opinion that what happened at the EU Summit on the refugee crisis was ‘sad’, in an interview, Tuesday. The self proclaimed ‘erratic Marxist’ politician/public speaker said Cyprus would really feel the effects of the memorandum, it recently got out of….Commenting on the EU Summit on the refugee crisis, Varoufakis lamented that the EU ‘used to safeguard freedom and rights’ but now European leaders could not stand by and support what they had decided upon. ‘There is no real European Parliament that can put forth lines in favour of humanity and European positions’, he said. On the issue of the negotiations between his former ‘comrades’ in the SYRIZA government with the EU ‘Quartet’ institutions he denied there were any real talks going on, but a kind of friction between the EU partners and not a real negotiation like in the recent past. ‘Now we are moving towards the full implementation of the memorandum’, he said.
