Political turmoil over offshore amendment continues

Opposition parties are still asking for explanations on the amendment

The government is expected to submit in parliament on Wednesday a new amendment on the controversial article included in the omnibus and provided that politicians would be able to own offshore companies in tax havens countries, as Proto Thema newspaper revealed.

Following the public outcry and the criticism received by all opposition parties, the government on Tuesday was forced to withdraw the amendment in question and a new amendment will be immediately legislated that will provide that MPs and politicians in general will not be able to own offshore companies.

However, government officials admit that political turmoil continues, since opposition parties are asking for explanations on why this provision was legislated in the first place and why it took so long until the government decided to withdraw it.
