Istanbul attacks: Chilling videos show the moment of explosions

Suicide bomber triggers belt on the ground

Newsroom June 29 09:08

Shocking video footage has emerged from the terror attacks at the ‘Kemal Ataturk’ airport in Istanbul that killed 36 people and injured over 140. The video from airport security cameras shows one of the three suicide bombers the moment he detonates his belt among civilians. The footage shows the area packed with unsuspecting travellers, who start running in panic after the explosion. The second video is even more chilling with people trying to find shelter and escape the pandemonium after the explosion. At one point the suicide bomber, who appears to be wielding a gun drops to the floor after being shot by police, according to Turkish media reports. As a police officer approaches the wounded bomber, he realises he has a suicide belt and is about to trigger it. The officer tries to run away, as the man on the ground detonates the bomb strapped to him. The images are reminiscent of the bomb attacks in Brussels when jihadist suicide bombers unleashed terror in the Belgian capital.
