The largest Austrian newspaper, “Kronen Zeitung”, published an article about Crete praising the beauties of the island. “The southernmost island of Greece fascinates with its natural beauty, its wild and romantic gorges and its steep mountains, but in Crete one can also experience the luxury”, the article begins.

The journalist described the experiences that a visitor can have when visiting Crete. From the African wind on the southern coast of the island, the famous gorges, the picturesque plateaus to the abandoned villages whose inhabitants wanted to find a better life in the mainland.

“The love for Crete can be tiring, but you will be rewarded hundredfold, because this is an original place, an extremely beautiful island, whose residents are the most hospitable, happy and proud people that one can imagine, an island where you will definitely want to come back” the article highlightes.

Special references are also made for the northern part of the island, where, as the article mentions, there are many things that someone can do and see, from small towns such as Rethymno and Agios Nikolaos, which despite the numerous tourists they receive, they have not changed, to the ancient Greek-Minoan civilization at Knossos and Phaistos and the monasteries which show the pride and rigid character of the Cretans against foreign invaders, Turkish and later on Germans.
