Buildings in Rome and Florence were shaken by a new earthquake and its many aftershocks, bringing back memories of the disaster that hit the country a few months ago, that killed approximately 300 people.
The quake hit around 10.25am local time (9.5am BST).
According to La Repubblica the quake was also felt in Lazio, Abruzzo and Marche.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at magnitude 5.3, in Central Italy and at a depth of six miles (10km).
