Greece is the preferred holiday destination for Cypriots this summer, according to the President of the Travel Agents’ Association of Travel Agents (ACTA) Victor Mantovanis.
“Cypriots travel a lot and this is a peak season for them. We are doing very well. The charter flights are all booked out,” told Mr. Mantovanis to CNA, adding that “we can see that they want to travel and that their interest has increased compared to last year.”
Mr. Mantovanis stressed that the Cypriots seek cheap destinations for their holidays and the cost is their primary concern. “They are searching for low cost options – this is their motto,” he said.
When asked what are the preferred destinations for Cypriots this summer, Mr Mantovanis said that their first choice are the Greek islands, based on the early bookings data.
Their list of top destinations also includes Central Europe, Paris, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic.
From the Greek islands, Crete, Rhodes, Skiathos, Corfu and Lefkada are the most popular.
Although relatively expensive, Mykonos is also included in their list of popular destinations.
Mr. Mantovanis underlined that although the number of Cypriots traveling abroad may grow this year, profitability will not improve due to the demand for low cost holidays.
