The amendment to Public Order Minister Vassilis Kikilias’ (pictured) bill for the reorganization of the Greek police was voted on Wednesday afternoon during the Parliament’s summer session with the support of the main opposition parties.
The coordination and control of the General Police Directorate of Attica and the General Regional Pollice is fortified with the conjunction of two higher bodies, namely the General Police Inspectors of North and South Greece. The leadership of the Hellenic Police will henceforth belong to the Chief of Hellenic Police, the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Police, the Chief of Police Headquarters, the General Inspector of the Aliens Residency and Protection Bureau, the General Security Branch Inspector, and the General Inspector of the Police Class Sector. A council of regional police directors will also be created.
Henceforth, the head of the greek police will also monitor the special crimes unit and the cyber crimes squad.
Furthermore, a series of positions will be abolished, such as the Business Plan Sector.
