The recent voting of the multi-bill in Parliament has paved the way for the installment of the next one-billion-euro tranche. The multi-bill contained a series of troika-mandated conditions for the disbursement that is expected to be released by the end of the week. Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ associate, Stavros Papastavrou, had a teleconference with the troika where it was agreed that the Euro Working Group would meet within two or three days following the ratification of the multi-bill to approve the next payment.
Total liabilities for the Greek state are at 6.7 billion euros as a result of treasury bills about to mature, interest fees and funds received from the first IMF loan. Even if the payment isn’t released, the General Accounting Office has the necessary funds to meet the increased needs of the government following the 1.5 billion euros that the government collected through the issue of three-year bonds in July.
The prime minister will go on vacation to Pylos and Nafplion in the Peloponnese for a few days before returning for a new round of negotiations with the troika and his European counterparts in September when the Greek economy will be evaluated.
