Difficulties in identification process of the missing Cypriots arise

The Cypriot Cabinet has not yet authorized the necessary budget!

The process of identifying remains believed to belong to some 50 missing persons from Cyprus has reached a critical and difficult point, as there are no matching DNA samples from close relatives of which to compare them.

Collecting DNA samples from deceased relatives might solve the problem, however, the Cypriot Cabinet has not yet authorized the necessary budget.

Most of the remains are thought to belong to Greek-Cypriots who went missing in the northern third of the island during the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
