Specifically, in response to the increasing incidents of animal abuse Mr. Kikilias asked Mr. Athanasiou, for the offenders to be punished by imprisonment of at least two years and a fine from 10.000 to 20.000 euro.

In the letter Mr. Kikilias highlights:

“Because the effects of abuse and lack of needed care for animals beyond their criminal status, undoubtedly brutally attack the culture of Greek society and vilify the international image of the country, the penalties provided should be more strict in order to strengthen their deterrence power and the provisions to become more effective for the protection of animals”.
