M. Renzi, with an open letter to Italian public sector employees, announced his plans for public administration. The Center-leftist PM clearly stated his main priorities and course of action.
Among other things, he will be enhancing the mobility of public servants, with respect to the workers’ rights. The managers of the public sector who have nothing to do, will be made redundant.
“We want to reward productive public sector employees with pay increases and further motivate them, and chase away the lazy ones”, he characteristically stated.
At present, the special design of commissioner Carlo Cotarelli’s plan, which called for the dismissal of 85000 civil servants over the course of three years, will not be implemented.
The possibility to stay in the public sector until one is 67 years of age will be removed, and all employees, according to Renzi’s intentions will have to retire at sixty-five. Special early retirement plans will also be adopted.
In this way, the head of the Italian government hopes to be able to hire up to 15000 new employees by 2018. In order for his ongoing campaign to not be affected, however, the final decision will be taken in early June. “I want you to e-mail me your opinions”, said Renzi.
