The leader of the Islamist group al Shabaab was the target of air attacks by the United States in Somalia as an American official admitted while speaking to Reuters.

However it is not clear yet whether Ahmed Abdi Godane is dead “but that was the goal,” said the same source.

The aim of the attack was in an area that senior organization members which have close ties with Al Qaeda usually encountered.

Other officials have argued that he is dead, but that information is not confirmed by the American government.

If the death of the Godane is confirmed then this will be seen as a major blow to the organization that he “upgraded” since 2008 when he took over the reins of the organization, culminating in the terrorist action of the attack in a shopping center in Kenya were 67 people lost their lives.
