The Dutch investigators published today the preliminary report on the causes of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine showing that the aircraft was hit in the air.
According the report published on the website of the Dutch Safety Board (OVV), the plane was penetrated by “high-speed objects” and cockpit activity “ended abruptly.” It was likely hit “by a large number of high-energy objects.”
Also, “The pattern of wreckage on the ground suggests that the aircraft split into pieces during flight”.
However, there was no evidence the crash was the result of a technical problem or pilot error and, as the investigators claimed, they are not going to put the blame on neither side, since their job is to find out the cause of the crash.
Dutch investigators faced many difficulties during the investigations since they were not able to access the site, because of ongoing fighting in the area. They had to rely on information about the scene of the incident from Ukrainian crash specialists.
Also, OVV said that a full report will be released in mid-2015.
