6 million euro ransom paid Italy to the Islamic State, for the release of the Swiss-Italian Federico Motka, who was abducted in Syria back in May.
After the beheadings of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, the Italians set up a secret operation to deliver the ransom through Turkey.
In the hands of the kidnappers of Motka still remains an Englishman, David Haines, which the Islamic State threatens to kill by decapitation.
However, both London and Washington have as principle not to deal with terrorists, and therefore, can not meet their demands for ransom.
