Beer economy: The most “drunken” country

It is the third most popular drink after water and tea

The conflict between Europe and Russia has also affected the beer industry worldwide and Carlsberg and Heineken have reported a great reduction in their product sales, since Russia and Ukraine were among their big clients.

The production of beer is one of the most important industries in the world and the companies owing the 50% of the global market are only four: Anheuser-Busch InBev, SABMiller, Heineken International, Carlsberg Group.

Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and is the third-most popular drink, after water and tea.

Among the countries with the highest beer consumption are Czech Republic (156.9 liters per person and per year), Ireland (131 liters), Germany (115 liters), Australia (109 liters), Austria (108 liters), UK (99 liters), Belgium (93 liters), Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg (82-87 liters), the USA (81 liters), whereas Portugal is ranked last with only 50 liters per person and per year. In Russia, beer is the second most popular drink after vodka and each person consumes 13 liters per year.

Where can I find cheap beer…
Whether you are in the central-eastern Europe or northern Asia, beer is very cheap. Vietnam and Ukraine are the cheapest countries since the bottle costs only 59 cents! You can also find cheap beers in Cambodia ($0.68), Czech Republic ($0.71), China ($0.74), Panama ($0.75), Serbia ($0.77) and Bulgaria ($0.78).

On the other hand, the most expensive beers can be found in the Middle East where you can enjoy a pint only in expensive places, since alcohol consumption is prohibited by the law. A bottle of beer costs $7.71 in Iran, $7.09 in Kuwait, $6.20 in the United Emirates, $5.14 in Papua, $4.72 in Singapore, $4.61 in Norway, $4.53 in Qatar, $4.45 Australia, $4.33 in Afghanistan and $4.17 in Jordan, whereas in Greece a bottle of beer costs about $ 1.50.
