An international outcry has been caused by the decision taken by the Pretoria court for the golden Paralympics champion, Oscar Pistorius, who was found guilty for culpable homicide (manslaughter), but was found innocent of premeditated murder and second degree murder.
Pistorius is now also found innocent of the International Paralympics Committee which gives him the green light in order to partake in the 2016 Rio, Brazil Paralympics event.
According to the BBC, the committee allows him to take part normally, if he so wishes.
The committee’s spokesman, stated that once Pistorius serves the time or pays the fine which will be directed to him by the court on the 13th of October. “Oscar will have to decide whether he wants to partake in the sporting event and then has to be verified by the South African paralympics committee. If the penalty is given to him before Rio, then the ball is on his court”, said the spokesman.
At the same time, according to British press reports, the man who killed his 29 year-old partner is likely to be spared…with a fine and a slap on the wrist. Other sources, however, state that his sentence might be reduced to five years (manslaughter brings at least 15 years in a South African prison).
Meanwhile, photos from Pistorius and Steenkamp’s house hours after the deadly attaack aagainst the latter have been released. Some even depict him washed up in blood, as well as the pistol used in the fatal attack.
Pistorius has made bail and is now free, while South African authorities expressed their distaste of the court’s decision.
