13 meter wall blocks the way to the third burial chamber

Experts found out that the same marble from Thasos was used to construct the caryatids as well as the rest of the tomb. It most likely delivered from the same ancient Macedonian workshop

Newsroom September 15 08:02

The work of the engineers followed by the archaeologists and the conservators at the Amphipolis tomb can only be described as very difficult and very dangerous. 13 meter wall blocks the way to the third burial chamber. The marble gate which was revealed is characterized by Ionic style meticulous marble doorframes.
This is just the beginning ,as the main concern is if they have reached the main burial chamber. However, it seems unlikely: By accepting the fact that the soil was for the purpose of protecting the dead, it is understood that they did not cover the dead with soil. Nothing similar has been noted to any of the Macedonian tomb’s so far.
Which brings to the conclusion that it is likely that basically the archaeologists have reached to the vestibule of the burial chamber.
In that case, they should be able to face a sealed gate which leads to the burial area. So far, the autopsy in the room has not revealed a gate, however there is always the possibility that the level of the tomb descends lower and maybe a stair which will lead the archaeologists to the burial tomb.
Further to the above, the removal of soil in the areas of the caryatids still remains unfinished.
Meanwhile, experts found out that the same marble from Thasos was used to construct the caryatids as well as the rest of the tomb. It most likely delivered from the same ancient Macedonian workshop.
Everyone’s great expectation is to find an inscription coveted and rare, since as is well known, they do not exist at Macedonian tombs, but are we certain that this tomb is a common Macedonian tomb?
