A powerful explosion rocked Azerbaijan’s offshore area near the headquarters of the state-owned natural gas company Socar.

The eruption of a mud volcano, as it is called, took place in the Caspian Sea, where the phenomenon of underground gas eruptions is quite common and causes columns of fire reminiscent of a volcanic eruption.

Instead of lava, however, flammable gas comes out along with the mud that is swept away by the underground explosion.
