Defense Minister D. Avramopoulos holds meeting on transparency

The Defense Minister and Secretary General for Transparency and Human Rights agreed that transparency and good administration is crucial for the integrity of the Armed Forces

National Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met with the Secretary General for Transparency and Human Rights Giorgos Sourlas to discuss issues concerning transparency and good administration to safeguard the integrity of the national defense system.

After their meeting, Mr. Avramopoulos said that complete transparency in the sector of the Armed Forces had been confirmed. He said that good administration in the Greek Armed Forces is important to “ensure the country’s integrity and independence.”

Mr. Sourlas said that the biggest challenge that he had to deal with in his post was putting an end to “national and financial crime” within the Greek Armed Forces. He said that progress had been made due to the fact that the Financial and Economic Crime Unit had performed fuel control, to ensure the quality of fuel.
