Breaking – Mandatory vaccination for those over 60 with a fine of 100 euros each month

The PM said it was not a punitive action

Newsroom November 30 11:52

UPD –

Vaccination for those over 60 years of age will be mandatory with the margin for this age group to book appointments on January 16th. From then on, every month those who are not vaccinated will be fined 100 euros each month.

The Prime Minister, starting his speech, said that the new Omicron mutation is a cause for concern, at a time when the holidays and family tables create a similar atmosphere. “It is certain that the mutation will make its appearance in Greece,” said the prime minister, saying that the existing measures must continue to be observed, excluding lockdown, which is not a solution.

Mr. Mitsotakis said that our country is second in Europe in terms of vaccination rate with the third dose. We are doing better but not as much as we want and not as much as we should, he said, referring to the 580,000 unvaccinated people over the age of 60. “Of the 580,000 unvaccinated people over the age of 60, only 80,000 rushed to be vaccinated in November,” he said.

“It is mainly those over 60 who are hospitalized and die, unjust deaths,” said the prime minister, citing the example of Portugal, which has a very high percentage at these ages, when in Greece it is around 83%. “They must be protected,” he said.

The Prime Minister then announced that from December 6 to 12 there would be self-tests distributed to every adult, both vaccinated and not, in order to control the spread of the virus in view of the holidays. The relevant announcements said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the specialization of the measures, will be made tomorrow by the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris.

According to information, a mandatory vaccination will be announced for all Greeks over the age of 60. According to the same sources, a fine of 100 euros will be imposed for each month that citizens over 60 will remain unvaccinated.

According to the sources, the fine of 100 euros for Greeks over the age of 60 who are not vaccinated will be confirmed every month through the tax office. The administrative fine of 100 euros that will be imposed on the non-vaccinated over 60 will be deposited for the strengthening of the health structures.

This decision tormented me a lot, said Mr. Mitsotakis and announced that those who have not been vaccinated over the age of 60 have not been vaccinated by January 16, 2022, will be asked to pay 100 euros through the tax office. “It is not a punishment, my decision is protection and not punishment,” the prime minister said, adding that the fine to be paid to those who do not decide to be vaccinated over the age of 60 will be in favor of strengthening health structures.
