PM Mitsotakis: SYRIZA’s desperate attempt to reprimand, to keep its forces floating (video) (Upd.)

The Prime Minister responds to the criticism of Alexis Tsipras - "My apology was not understood by those who never uttered it"

Newsroom January 30 08:00

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis answered to Alexis Tsipras from the floor of Parliament, “you said that there was not a chance in a million for me to win the elections,” he said characteristically, addressing the president of SYRIZA especially for that point of his speech, which Mr. Tsipras described the prime minister as “politically finished”.

At the same time, he characterized the motion of censure as a desperate attempt by Alexis Tsipras to keep the SYRIZA forces, which are “flipping” towards other political forces.

“We will deconstruct your lies one by one,” he said, addressing the leader of the main opposition party. “Every sentence has two lies”, he said.

As Mr. Mitsotakis mentioned, what Mr. Tsipras said reminded him of a saying of Shakespeare: “The truth is like a soft glove that is worn inside-out. And the government is raising this glove, to answer for the real picture of today and what the future of the country can be like”, he stressed.

“Even when you insist on calling for elections, you did not say anything about an alternative proposal. What exactly are you asking for? Who to emerge and who to rule? He who for 2.5 years after the elections did not dare to hold a report on the causes of his defeat”, he also commented, emphasizing that Mr. Tsipras is trying to close internal party wounds.

Mr. Mitsotakis attempted a brief look back at the 31 months of his government, noting that they were accompanied by successes, despite adversity, challenges and a pandemic.

At the same time, he accused SYRIZA of a false reality and stressed that the economy and society stood firm.

Regarding the problems from the “Elpis” bad weather, Mr. Mitsotakis acknowledged shortcomings in the coordination, however, he responded to SYRIZA’s criticism, saying that he attacks the government, because he kept the Attiki Odos open, when last year, in the “Medea” weather front, he accused government because it had closed it.
