Facebook parent company sues Russia over ban

Meta appeals to Court of Appeals over "extremist activity" ban - WhatsApp is the only service operating in Russia

Newsroom April 19 08:01

Meta has decided to appeal to the Court of Appeals, wanting to annul the decision of a Russian court, which banned it from operating in the country due to “extremist activity”, Reuters reports, citing the Interfax agency.

The decision to ban Meta Platforms came at the request of the Russian prosecutor’s office in March.

The prosecutor also appealed to the Russian telecommunications regulator to restrict access to Instagram, Meta’s social networking site.
