Administrative Reform Minister on cross-checks of public employees’ labour contracts

Referring to country’s political situation he said that “SYRIZA wants to use the Greek President’s election to topple the government"

Newsroom October 8 02:07

Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Real FM “Authorities simply cross-check whether the employees’ labour status was rendered to permanent without meeting the criteria of the Presidential Decree” adding that no criteria would be changed.

“The only reason that POE-OTA – municipal workers’ federation- is reacting is because they are aware of the truth, meaning that many contract workers did not meet the necessary criteria to have their labour contract converted from fixed-term to indefinite one,” the minister continued.

Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to his term as a minister saying that “when I assumed the responsibilities of the Administrative Reform Ministry, there was a lot of talking on the layoffs and the mobility scheme. We set and put forward our own reform plan, we were convincing and as you can see there are no new quantitative targets for 2015.”

Also, the minister referring to country’s political situation said that “SYRIZA wants to use the Greek President’s election to topple the government, circumventing the Constitution.” He appeared confident that the 180 deputies needed for the election of the President “will be found” and said that the candidate President “could be a non-political figure, a great Greek man or woman.”

Mr. Mitsotakis also added that “investors are worry about what early elections would mean” and described the main opposition’s economic program as “completely inapplicable.”

He noted that “as soon as the negotiation is concluded, the discussion on the debt sustainability could start” and that “Greece will borrow from the markets that demand fiscal restraint as well as reforms, which will be owned by the Greek political system.”

Finally, he stressed that “since there would be no troika, we would be accountable for ourselves and the Greek citizens, so as not to return to bad old habits”.
