Lonely Planet: A Greek beach among the 20 best in the world (list)

For those who want to avoid the crowds, Lonely Planet recommends visiting the beach in September or October

Newsroom February 6 12:27

The best beach in the world is a surfer’s paradise with pink sand and is located in Australia, according to Lonely Planet.

Specifically, at the easternmost point of mainland Australia, Byron Bay, The Pass beach is perfect for beginners and experienced surfers alike.

Shells and bones gathered beside the boat ramp bear witness to the rich Aboriginal history of the spot, while koalas and turkeys live in the rainforest that stretches to the edge of The Pass.

In 5th place on Lonely Planet’s list of best beaches is Sarakiniko in Milos, with the magazine writing that the spectacular views from the volcanic cliffs and cool waters make up for those who will have to carry their own supplies to this beach.

“Centuries of erosion by waves and winds have made potholes and arches in the rock formations on the beach, creating caves for exploration and alabaster cliffs for jumping.

Sunbathe on the rocks or use them as an access point to slip into the water for some snorkeling,” the magazine continues.

For those who want to avoid the crowds, Lonely Planet recommends visiting Saracenico in September or October.

And in high season, it’s best to arrive early in the morning, when the only sound is the wind and waves. “If you can, return at sunset – it’s a wonderful sight as the alabaster cliffs glow in the fiery hues of the setting sun.”
