Mitsotakis: Greece stands by Serbia for its European perspective

"We will stand by you in this effort", said Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Newsroom February 12 01:28

A meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took place at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade. The subjects of the meeting were bilateral relations, Serbia’s European perspective, cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation and Greece’s participation in the development of Serbian infrastructure.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed Greece’s support for Serbia’s European prospect during their joint statements. “We will stand by you in this effort,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“We had substantive discussions this morning. We note the progress of our relations, which have been forged over the years. This bilateral convergence acquired a strategic character with the joint declaration we signed in Athens a few months after I took office. Within the year, we look forward to the convergence of the fourth working council, with a focus on a future of peace, development, and social prosperity. Our decision to collaborate in all fields was reaffirmed today. It is not a coincidence that I am in Belgrade accompanied by four ministers and a broad business delegation. We are interested in connecting our countries in energy and transportation. Both of us attach importance to the modernization of the Thessaloniki-Belgrade connection, as well as the completion of a broad axis starting from Piraeus and ending in Budapest. A project of strategic importance for our countries and southeastern Europe. European resources should also be utilized for this purpose. We could transport natural gas to the Serbian market through the Revythousa terminal, while you could provide us with large storage areas that you have. Cooperation can also be extended to renewable energy sources. We possess valuable know-how and aspire to become an export hub to the north, and we want to assist Serbia in its green transition”, said the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
