“We are here to responsibly address a social inequality”, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began his speech in Parliament regarding the marriage and adoption bill for same-sex couples.
He continued, arguing for the legislation, stating:
“The reform we are legislating today makes the lives of many of our fellow citizens much better without depriving anything from the lives of many.
It is something provided for in our Constitution and requires our government itself to make visible around us people who have been invisible until now, and along with them, many children to find their rightful place.
These are, moreover, at the center of the interest of the bill, as both parents do not have the same ability to provide for their children what they need.
To be able to take them to school, to take them to the doctor.
This gap we come to fill by allowing everyone if they wish to seal their relationship with a ceremony at city hall as heterosexuals do”, mentioned Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
