The Government – Kasselakis battle for his US-based company

Maximou officials believe that the SYRIZA president "hides behind his sharp style and avoids giving answers of substance" - On camera outburst of Kasselakis from mountainous Arcadia, where he is on a short-term holiday

Newsroom March 6 09:10

The prosecutorial investigation into the US-based company OSIOS LLC of the interests of Stephanos Kasselakis, but also the attack of the president of SYRIZA against the judiciary for the…speed of intervention in his case, in relation to other cases, resulted in the government’s thundering against Mr. Kasselakis, with executives of the Megaro Maximou to assess that the president of SYRIZA “hides” behind his sharp style and avoids giving answers of substance on whether or not he had the company in question.

“The law is clear and has an obligation whoever is the leader of a parliamentary group represented in a national or European parliament not to participate in a foreign company and even with a law of SYRIZA in 2016,” underline sources of the Southwest, responding to the ….concern expressed by Mr. Kasselakis days ago in relation to the current law and whether he “caught”.

It is recalled that with this company the SYRIZA president had borrowed the party to pay salaries and Christmas gift at the end of the year for the employees of the party media.

Speaking to STAR in early January, Kasselakis had underlined that he had given 230,000 euros for the needs of Left Media, and after the case was revealed he did not deny that he is still a major shareholder of the company in question.

“Mr. Kasselakis confesses once again that he still owns shares in foreign companies, so all this time he has been violating the relevant legislation,” they say from the Southwest, stressing that this provision “catches” in any case the leaders of parties in Parliament, among others, regardless of whether they are MPs or not.

Recall that in an on camera outburst from mountainous Arcadia, where he is on a few days’ holiday, Kasselakis blamed the judiciary for its…reflexes in its case, stressing that in other cases it has “the slowest reflexes in the world” and more specifically “when it has to investigate the crime, the bungling and the cover-up in Tempe.

When he ought to investigate the Predator and the illegal wiretapping of the Maximou.

When it ought to try the cases of every ordinary citizen seeking justice without means.”

“Send all the prosecutors you want.

Unlike the gigantic fortunes of those who rule us, my income in the US is all taxed.

To the last dollar – to the last euro,” Kasselakis stressed, though he did not answer as to whether or not he owned OSIOS LLC at the time the loan was made to the party funds.

“Attack on Justice”

The crescendo of Mr. Kasselakis brought an immediate response from government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, who, it should be noted, was in Brussels and had a meeting with the Commission’s vice-president in charge of rule of law issues, Vera Yurova.

“Mr. Kasselakis instead of responding to the substance of what the prosecution authorities are very seriously investigating, following the allegations of the former financial director of SYRIZA, made a direct attack on Justice and at the same time reproduces the most vulgar version of the rhetoric of fake news and toxic discourse expressed by his party in recent years,” the government spokesman said, stressing that “if he thinks that by resorting to toxicity he will avoid answers, he is very wrong.”

It is obvious that the government in the coming period will “press” Mr. Kasselakis in particular on this issue, as it is unclear how many companies the president of SYRIZA currently owns and how many others in which he holds shares, as it is clear that until the end of the year he had not renounced his business activities.

Mr Kasselakis has also failed to file his tax returns, of course quite legitimately, given that he has been given an extension to submit them until the end of the year.

The second prosecution investigation into the e-mails of ND Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou sent to overseas voters without their authorization, the government refrained from commenting further.

“There have been clear statements from both Ms Asimakopoulou and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The case is being checked by the competent authorities,” they said from Maximou, while senior sources told protothema.gr that there is no question of Ms Asimakopoulou not being included in the ND’s European candidate list.

The crucial, however, for the government staff is to disassociate the Asimakopoulou case from the security of the personal data of those who have registered to vote by mail.

“This whole debate has nothing to do with absentee voting, a fact that the opposition parties are aware of and they are driving the debate there to speak out against such a positive initiative, which they did not support,” government sources said.

To this end Internal Affairs Minister Niki Kerameos also ordered an internal investigation at the Internal Affairs Ministry to make sure that there was no data leakage from this source and therefore to document that there is no question of the security of voter data.
