Time change – When we will turn our clocks forward one hour

On the last Sunday of the month, daylight saving time returns

Newsroom March 17 05:15

On the last Sunday of March, i.e. 31 March 2024, daylight saving time is expected to return and we will turn back the hands of our clocks.

The clock hands should be moved forward one hour, i.e. from 03:00 am to 04:00 am.

Time change: How the daylight saving time was introduced

Daylight saving time is based on a system designed to make better use of daylight to save energy.

In Greece and Europe, daylight saving time lasts for 7 months, while winter time starts on the last Sunday in October and is applied for 5 months.

The first mention of using daylight saving time was by Benjamin Franklin in a letter published in a French newspaper.

In this letter there is no mention of changing the time, but a proposal that people should wake up an hour earlier.

Today, the part of the world’s population that uses the time change is a minority, as almost all Asian and African countries do not participate. Others have abolished it or are planning to abolish it.

The European Union has decided to end mandatory time change in 2021, allowing each member state to independently choose to make daylight saving time permanent. In Greece, the relevant consultation has been postponed indefinitely.
