"Tortured Poets Department" is the first album to achieve this feat in 1 week

Newsroom April 25 05:55

Taylor Swift’s album broke a new record with over a billion streams on Spotify by April 22.

The American singer, who released ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ last week, has already become the first artist on Spotify to have 300 million streams in a single day.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Spotify states: “On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” became the most streamed album on Spotify in one week. The album has surpassed one billion streams since its release.”

The singer-songwriter has previously broken records on Spotify, becoming the first female artist on the music listening service to reach 100 million listeners in one month in August 2023.

Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” reached number 1 on both sides of the Atlantic and was the most streamed album in the UK for 2023.

“The Tortured Poets Department,” her 11th album, features collaborations with Florence And The Machine and Post Malone, and the song titles and lyrics seem to reference her former bandmates.
