In Veroia, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a dual message to Skopje, stating that the path to Europe will remain closed and the memoranda will not be ratified until there is complete compliance with the provisions of the Prespa Agreement. This message was part of his nationwide tours ahead of the European elections on June 9th.

He also addressed the issue of the Evros fence, asserting that “Greece is not an open” and responded to the “ultranationalist warmongers” by emphasizing that he had met with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and corrected him on minority issues.

“Some have tried to exploit faith. No one should play with Orthodoxy, no one should play with faith. Turn your back on those who try to exploit the beliefs of Greek society in a despicable way,” the Prime Minister added, further criticizing the opposition for promising “money trees.”

Message to Skopje

Regarding the political implications of the European elections, the Prime Minister observed that “these elections also concern the internal political situation. The entire opposition, whether from the right or the left, has mobilized to shorten ND and Mitsotakis, without saying a word about Europe. On the right, we have the ultranationalist warmongers who believe that at every opportunity the government should be accused of being supposedly submissive, because the Prime Minister had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Erdogan and correct him on minority issues.”

Closing his remarks, he said, “Regarding the pending issues with our northern neighbor, I would like to be absolutely clear: ND did not vote for the Prespa Agreement, but we said that once it is voted on, we must implement it. If anyone thinks they can challenge it, they should know two things: The path to Europe will remain closed and the memoranda will not be ratified until there is complete compliance with what the Agreement stipulates,” the Prime Minister concluded, sending a message to North Macedonia.
