Increase continues to be recorded for SARS-CoV-2 positivity in the community. The number of admissions with Covid-19 infection showed an increase, reaching 324. According to the weekly epidemiological report of the EODC for the period 10 to 16 June, new variant strains of the virus were also detected in our country.
Influenza-like illness – ILI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits remains low.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits remains low.
SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection
Positivity in all tested samples showed an increase compared to the previous week.
The number of new admissions was 324. The average weekly number of new admissions in the previous four weeks was 166 and the number of admissions in the corresponding week in 2023 was 225.
The number of new intubations was three. The average weekly number of new intubations in the previous four weeks was two and the number of intubations in the corresponding week in 2023 was five.
The number of patients with COVID-19 infection hospitalized intubated was 12.
The number of deaths was five. The average weekly number of deaths in the previous four weeks was five and the number of deaths in the corresponding week in 2023 was 20.
The most common BA.2.86 sub-variant remains JN.1, while BA.2.86 strains with the F456L and R346T mutations (a new class of variant strains under surveillance since 4/6) have also been identified in Greece.
Surveillance of the viral load in urban wastewater showed a decrease in the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in five of the ten sites tested, an increase in four and a stabilisation in one.
Influenza virus
Positivity for influenza in the community (sentinel network) remains low, below 10% (ECDC seasonal threshold for onset/end of influenza epidemic activity). In the SARI network samples positivity remains low.
One new severe case with ICU hospitalisation was recorded, while one severe case of laboratory-confirmed influenza with ICU hospitalisation and one death from laboratory-confirmed influenza were retrospectively reported.
A total of 148 people with laboratory-confirmed influenza have been hospitalised in ICUs and 71 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza have been recorded.
Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV
No positive samples were detected both in the community (Sentinel PHC surveillance network) and in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
