The 44-year-old ” Hansom George,” as referred to by those in Mykonos, arrived at Evelpidon courts shortly after 9 am on Sunday to testify after his arrest for the murder of the 54-year-old surveyor in Neo Psychiko. He was transferred under heavy security, escorted by five police vehicles. Initially, “Georgios” was taken to the execution prosecutor and then to an investigator from whom he is expected to request and receive a deadline to testify.

Arrest and Evidence

The arrested man had already been detained since Friday night, following a warrant for intentional homicide and carrying/using a weapon. Police statements and searching his house provided enough evidence to arrest him.

Surveillance Footage

Video footage was crucial in leading the police to the suspect. Analysis revealed that after the murder, the shooter arrived on a black scooter in the Zografou area, parked in an apartment building’s lot, and switched to his motorcycle.

Authorities also noted the suspect’s body type, which was captured on video at the murder scene when he picked up a billboard he had dropped. This detail helped identify the perpetrator.

Further Investigation

ERT reported that police located both the scooter and the suspect’s motorcycle. They also searched the homes of the 44-year-old and his partner, looking for clothes, shoes, and a helmet worn on the day of the crime.

Alpha reported that the gunman, believing he was far from the murder scene, had entered an apartment block to get his motorcycle after leaving the scooter. Police traced his movements through several security camera videos, which showed him entering a specific parking area.

An investigation revealed that the 44-year-old’s partner lived in the apartment building. She was brought in for questioning, and a pair of gloves was found in her home.

Criminal History

The perpetrator was previously involved in the kidnapping of shipowner Periklis Panagopoulos and had connections with a known Greek criminal. Initially sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping, his sentence was reduced to 15 years. He was also involved in robberies, beatings, and extortion in provincial towns.

Despite his conviction, he remained in rural prisons in Tiryns, where he scandalously escaped at night, committed robberies, and returned without any control, as revealed in 2019.
