Panhellenic Exams 2024: Declining Admission Scores for Popular Schools – Which Ones Neared 20,000 Points

The lowest admission score this year was 6,860 points for the Department of Regional and Economic Development at the Agricultural University of Athens in Amfissa

Admission Trends

A decrease in the number of high-ranking schools and an increase in low-ranking ones were revealed by the 2024 admission statistics, announced earlier than ever on Thursday, July 25. Overall, there was an increase in scores for 38% of departments, while the remaining 62% saw a decline.

Success Rates

According to the Ministry of Education, the total number of candidates was 73,161 (61,985 from GEL and 11,176 from EPAL). Out of these, 63,412 candidates were admitted to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the Supreme Ecclesiastical Academies, ASPAITE, ASTE, and the Military and Police Schools, as well as the Academies of the Fire Brigade, Merchant Navy, and Coast Guard.

The success rate for GEL candidates was 69.7%, while for EPAL candidates, it was 37.61%.

Highest and Lowest Admission Scores

The highest admission score for 2024 was for the School of Architecture and Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, with 19,335 points, despite a drop of 615 points from last year. The top five departments with the highest admission scores included two architecture departments and one medicine department:

  • Architectural Engineering at NTUA in Athens: 19,335 points
  • International and European Studies at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki: 18,895 points
  • Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA): 18,775 points
  • Architectural Engineering at the University of Patras: 18,554 points
  • English Language and Philology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: 18,550 points

Conversely, the lowest admission score recorded this year was 6,860 points for the Department of Regional and Economic Development at the Agricultural University of Athens in Amfissa. The five departments with the lowest scores were:

  • Regional and Economic Development at the Agricultural University of Athens (Amfissa): 6,860 points
  • Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Western Macedonia (Grevena): 7,415 points
  • Accounting and Finance at the University of Western Macedonia (Kozani): 7,550 points
  • Accounting and Finance at the University of Ioannina: 7,570 points
  • Business Administration at the University of the Aegean (Chios): 7,830 points

Trends in Popular Schools

Admission scores for most sought-after schools in Higher Education decreased. Law schools experienced a drop ranging from 100 points (Athens Law School) to 325 points (Komotini Law School – Democritus University of Thrace). Psychology departments saw a decline of 180 to 250 points, except for the SSAS Psychology department in Thessaloniki, which dropped by 610 points.

Medical schools saw declines ranging from 225 to 325 points. Most Polytechnic schools also saw decreases of 400 to 700 points. IT departments generally experienced drops of 225 to 740 points, with the IT and Telecommunications department at the University of Thessaly in Lamia dropping by 1,425 points. However, the Department of Informatics at the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria increased by 1,280 points.

The trends in Economics schools were mixed. Admission scores either declined by 75 points (Economics and Regional Development – Panteion University) to 550 points (Economics – Athens University of Economics) or increased by 40 points (Economic Sciences of Rethymno – University of Crete) to 955 points (Economic Sciences of Kastoria – University of Western Macedonia).

Largest Increases and Decreases

The Departments of Music Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Ioannina, and Athens saw the greatest increases. The top five departments with the largest increases were:

  • Music Studies at AUTH: 14,310 points, up by 4,500 points
  • Music Studies at the University of Ioannina (Arta): 15,250 points, up by 3,460 points
  • Music Studies at EKPA: 14,510 points, up by 3,380 points
