Staggering images are being captured in areas burned by the fire in northeastern Attica with firefighters trying to tackle the flames and police officers assisting them by extricating and evacuating residents who have no way to escape the fiery blaze.
The video below is typical of police officers trying to evacuate elderly people in time while the flames are just a stone’s throw away.
“Dispatch, we have them in a vehicle and are trying to drive them away,” officers can be heard relaying to their colleagues.
According to the tally so far, a total of 250 rescues by men and women of ELAS were carried out by Monday morning.

Typical of their self-sacrifice is the video of what police officers experienced overnight near the Marathon when they had to go through the fire to evacuate civilians from the area.
As seen in the video from the patrol car, the officers of the OPKE and the traffic police managed to avoid getting trapped at the last minute.

Police officers are even not hesitating to grab a hose to help with small fires to prevent them from reigniting and causing more problems.
It is noted that 380 policemen with 77 vehicles, 36 motorbikes, 3 buses and 4 vans are operating in the areas of northeastern Attica where the fire is raging
