Lefteris Papadopoulos: The Panathenaic Stadium Overflowing for Concert in His Honor – Surprise Appearance by Haroula Alexiou

The legendary singer broke her vow to never sing again - The Panathenaic Stadium was filled

Newsroom September 5 10:05

The stands of the Panathenaic Stadium were overflowing with people on Wednesday evening for a tribute concert dedicated to Lefteris Papadopoulos, the man who has given Greeks countless hits for over six decades.

From 7 p.m., when the stadium gates opened, the crowd filled the venue. Approximately 35,000 people attended the concert, organized by “All Together We Can” to support environmental protection initiatives.

Lefteris Papadopoulos was present, accompanied by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.

The big surprise of the evening was the appearance of Haroula Alexiou on stage. Having been closely associated with Lefteris Papadopoulos’ songs since the beginning of her career, Haroula Alexiou sang despite having retired from live performances in 2020 due to concerns about her voice.

In a moving moment, she performed “The Leader” by Manos Loizos alongside Miltos Paschalidis, while Lefteris Papadopoulos watched emotionally. Before singing, she told the audience, “I’ve drawn the curtains long ago, but tonight I will open them to let in your light. Whatever this voice can do, it will do. You’ve always been called the Leader, and you can’t say no to the Leader.” Her words were met with warm applause from the crowd.

The concert proceeds will go towards environmental protection initiatives.
