New Greek bus rules: Front entry only

OASA hopes to solve two problems with this measure: Easier access when getting on and off as well as bringing an end to free riders

Newsroom November 5 08:23

The Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) announced that passengers will only be able to enter buses and trolleys from the front door on November 1. There are plans to implement the new measure in 56 routes as a better way of organizing commuters trying to get on and off the bus, but more importantly, as a way to discourage free riders on public transport. Passengers will only be allowed to embark when they show their ticket to the driver.

Unfortunately, there are many problems for commuters trying to obtain tickets that are not sold at all stops but only at select kiosks and central areas. Oftentimes, people enter buses pleading for tickets from fellow commuters.
